Hire a real band for your wedding.

Your guests will remember the music long after they've forgotten everything else.

A DJ plays songs. A cover band plays the songs everyone else plays. A gypsy jazz quartet — fully acoustic, virtuosic, rooted in the tradition Django Reinhardt invented in 1930s Paris — that's a different category of evening.

We've played weddings, gallery openings, festivals, and corporate events. We arrive early. We dress the part. We read the room and shift the energy from cocktail-hour murmur to dance-floor heat. You won't think about us once during your event — except to be grateful.

Hear the range — cocktail hour through dancing.
What we play

Three different jobs, one band.

Ceremony

Processional, recessional, and the long quiet stretch while everyone is being seated. Acoustic, so it sits under a vow rather than over it.

Cocktail hour

The hour the music actually makes. Warm and unhurried, loud enough that the room feels like something is happening, quiet enough that nobody raises their voice.

Dinner & dancing

We read the room and move with it — slow drags through dinner, then the full Hot Club range once the floor opens.

We play as a duo, trio, quartet or quintet — the quartet and quintet can include a vocalist — and we can change size across the evening. Your first dance can be arranged in the gypsy jazz tradition; send us the song.

What couples and clients say
  • This band delivered exactly what we were looking for! We worked directly with Joseph who was highly professional and communicative. He helped craft a set list that met all my needs and wants, and delivered it in the most beautiful way. Guests were so impressed by how gorgeous the music sounded. This isn't just your average group of musicians trying to get paid. They are extremely skillful artists who put love and heart into their performances. Highly recommend!

  • Gypsy Reverie's musicianship was unparalleled. We received just as many compliments on the band as we did on the art in our festival.

Questions couples ask.

What size band do we need?—

Roughly by guest count: a duo (violin and guitar) up to about 80, a trio adding upright bass up to 150, a quartet up to 300, and a quintet for anything larger. The quartet and quintet can include a vocalist. We can also change size across one evening, which is usually what a wedding wants.

How long do you play?+

Anything from ceremony-only — prelude, processional, ceremony, recessional — up to a full four-hour wedding day covering ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. Hours beyond four are charged per musician. The pricing guide lays out each package.

Can you learn our first dance?+

Yes, and it's one of our favourite things to do. Send us the song and we'll arrange it in the gypsy jazz tradition. It stays recognisably your song, played in a way nobody at the wedding will have heard it before.

Are you loud?+

We're fully acoustic, and up to about 100 guests no amplification is needed at all — so we can play at conversation volume through dinner and lift it for dancing without anyone reaching for a fader. Above that we bring our own sound system, added at $100 for the event.

Do you travel?+

Yes. We're based in Asheville and play across Western North Carolina; anything within an hour's drive is covered by the standard rate, and beyond that there's a travel fee per musician. We've played as far afield as Maryland and Pennsylvania. The rates are in the pricing guide.

What do you wear?+

Vintage or black-tie, whichever suits the event. We'll ask before the day.

What does it cost?+

It depends on the size of the band and how much of the day you want covered. Every package is turn-key — artist fees, travel, setup and breakdown are all included. The only additions are $100 for our sound system on events over 100 guests, and travel beyond an hour from Asheville. You provide meals and a green room. See the full pricing guide and song list →
